Overview.
The Wallace Collection in London sought to create a visually stunning and immersive exhibition dedicated to the life and legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The project demanded a meticulous approach, with every element needing to reflect the grandeur and historical significance of the subject. FLIP. were entrusted with the responsibility to survey, manufacture, print, and install a range of bespoke elements, including painted signage, caption signs, vinyl text panels, and large format wallpapers.
Surveying: Precision and Planning.
Before the creative work could begin, our team conducted an extensive survey of the exhibition space. Understanding the architectural nuances and visitor flow was critical to ensuring that every visual element was placed strategically for maximum impact. This phase involved:
Detailed measurements: Accurate measurements were essential for producing custom signage and wallpapers that would seamlessly integrate with the building’s interior.
Environmental assessment: We carefully considered lighting, wall textures, and visitor sight-lines to optimise the placement and design of each graphic element.
Client collaboration: Regular consultations with the curators and designers ensured that our plans aligned perfectly with the exhibition’s thematic and aesthetic goals.
Manufacturing and Printing: Craftsmanship + Technology.
Once the surveying phase was complete, our team moved on to the manufacturing and printing processes. The Ranjit Singh exhibition required a blend of traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology to achieve the desired visuals. We crafted bespoke painted signs that echoed the historical era of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Each sign was hand- finished to ensure authenticity, with attention to historical accuracy in fonts, colours, and materials.
Caption Signs + vinyl text panels: The caption signs and vinyl text panels were produced using high-resolution printing techniques to ensure crisp, legible text. The vinyl panels were precision-cut to fit perfectly within the exhibition space, maintaining a clean, professional look.
Large format wallpapers: The large format wallpapers were perhaps the most striking feature of the exhibition. These wallpapers were custom-designed to depict key moments from Ranjit Singh’s life, with each panel meticulously colour-matched to ensure a cohesive look across the exhibition space.
Installation: Flawless Execution.
The final stage of the project was the installation, where all the elements came together to bring the exhibition to life. Our experienced installation team worked with great care to ensure every piece was installed to perfection.
Seamless wallpaper installation: The large format wallpapers required precise alignment to create a continuous narrative across the walls. Our team ensured that each panel was applied smoothly, without bubbles or misalignments, resulting in a flawless finish that captivated visitors.
Perfectly placed signage: The bespoke painted signs and vinyl text panels were installed with precision, ensuring that they were both visually striking and informative. The signage was strategically placed to guide visitors through the exhibition, enhancing the overall experience.
Attention to detail: Every aspect of the installation was double-checked for quality, from the positioning of the smallest text panel to the lighting that highlighted key displays. Our team worked outside of regular hours to ensure minimal disruption and to meet the tight deadlines.
The Result: An Immersive Historical Experience.
Our delivery of the Ranjit Singh exhibition graphics at The Wallace Collection created a stunning exhibition space, including bespoke, hand-crafted signage solutions, perfectly placed, and striking large-format wallpapers reflecting the grandeur of the exhibition itself.
“The bespoke signage and wallpapers really brought the exhibition to life, creating a stunning experience for our visitors. Thank you very much for your attention to detail and professional services ”
